We live with a Golden Retriever named Jessie, although our vet refers to her as a swamp dog. It doesn't matter how many baths she gets, she smells. Every mud puddle, every little trickle of water, pond or river must be examined and wallowed in. I adore her, but she has claimed my husband as her own property and they are inseparable. Walks to the pond, bike rides, hanging out in the truck at work (one of her favorite pastimes) and...fishing! She will stand in the river with him and navigate rapids and slippery rocks for hours just for the pure joy of being at his side. I gave up a long time ago being numero uno...I don't jump up and down and lick him when he gets home. A girl has to draw the line somewhere, don't you think? I can't think of anyone I would rather play second fiddle to as it is just pure unadulterated love for both of them and I've faced the fact that I'm just not as much fun. So there...I've finally said it out loud. My husband is in love with another female and it makes me happy. Anyone that is lucky enough to live with one of these wonderful dogs will understand! Ciao.
