Fall of 2003 I hit the jackpot and was invited to join a photographic expedition into Namibia, Africa. Just 6 of us and a guide we spent 5 weeks in the bush. Special permits allowed us to be out before sunrise and after sundown. I decided that everything there either had horns, thorns or wanted to eat you! We were able to camp in non perimeter areas, crossed the famous Namib Dunes into the Skeleton Coast on GPS, pitched our own tents and cooked over a campfire. One of the most amazing adventures of my life. Back to my story. This particular evening, Charlie Summers, (BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year), our amazing and brave guide, Tommy Hall, and myself were positioned to "capture" this lone giraffe silhouetted against a fiery sun at sunset. Charlie had his big gun camera out the window as Tommy furiously raced back and forth across the landscape trying to follow Charlie's shouted instructions... hurry up... slow down... turn around... faster, STOP!, GO! The poor giraffe kept moving a little and the sun was dipping quickly into the horizon. See, Charlie wanted the giraffe's head centered in the globe of the sun...I'm pretty happy with shot I got. Sorry, Charlie...If I remember you got the shot you wanted, but I have the story that makes me giggle! Have a fabulous day and hope you have a little adventure, even if it's only going to the grocery store.
